Review my billFirst: how to read your bill

What it is, what it costs and who it is for

Reviewing your bill costs €99, VAT included, and it is for homes that already have solar panels. We check whether surplus compensation is active, work out the power you need from twelve months of real consumption and see whether your tariff fits. The report is with you within five working days of the data being complete.

€99 credited back if you book a €299-or-more service within 60 days. Resolution work, from €299.

If your home has no self-consumption installation, this service is not for you and we say so before charging anything: half the work is checking surplus compensation, and without panels there is no surplus to check. For that there is the guide to reading your bill, which is free to read.

Last regulatory review: .

What we solve

Three checks, in this order, because this is the order in which the money sorts itself out: what is not being discounted, what you overpay every day and what may be wrongly contracted.

Whether your surplus is actually being compensated

Exporting energy to the grid and being enrolled in the compensation mechanism are two different things. We look at whether the line exists on your bill and whether what is compensated bears any relation to what your installation can produce.

How much contracted power you really need

The calculation comes from twelve months of your consumption curve, not from a single month. With solar, the shape of the home's consumption changes, and the power contracted before the panels went up is almost never revisited afterwards.

Whether your tariff fits the way you consume now

With self-consumption, the hours in which you buy energy from the grid are no longer the ones you used to. We check whether the contract you hold still makes sense against those hours, without taking commission from any retailer.

When this review is needed

  • Months into having solar and the bill looks nothing like what was promised.
  • No idea whether the surplus is being compensated or not.
  • A suspicion of paying for more contracted power than the house needs.
  • Someone has offered a tariff change and it is unclear whether it is worth it.

What happens if it is left as it is

  • If compensation is not active, every bill keeps failing to discount the energy already exported to the grid.
  • You pay every day for power you do not use, and that does not show up as a separate line that catches the eye.
  • You switch tariff on the advice of whoever earns a commission on that switch.

Who can do it and who is involved

You can do it yourself: the consumption curve is your data and your network operator releases it to you on request. We consult it on your behalf, which is why your express authorisation is a requirement before we start. Two third parties are involved: your network operator, which holds the curve and applies any change of contracted power, and your retailer, which settles the compensation on the invoice. We do the analysis and file whatever needs filing. Their decisions and their timescales are not ours to commit.

The service is delivered remotely across Spain. If your panels are in La Costera or nearby, we can also follow it up from the towns where we work, one by one.

Before you pay us anything, see whether this is enough

There are three routes that do not go through us. If one of them works for you, take it: this review earns its price when you want an ordered answer from someone who is not paid to send you to a particular retailer.

Use a tariff comparison site.

Fine if you only want a quick steer. Bear in mind that comparison sites live on the commission paid by the retailer they send you to.

Download your own consumption curve from Datadis and read it.

Fine if you are comfortable with a spreadsheet and have a couple of afternoons. The data is yours and it costs nothing.

Ask your retailer.

Fine if your question is specific and about billing. They will answer it, but they will not tell you to leave.

What the price includes and what it does not

What is included

  • Check of whether surplus compensation is active and whether what is compensated matches what is exported.
  • Calculation of the contracted power you actually need, from your consumption curve.
  • Check of whether your tariff still fits the way you consume now that you have solar.
  • A report with what to change, in what order and what each change is worth.
  • The change of contracted power handled for you, if the review shows there is power to spare.

One round of revisions included

What is not included

  • Explaining how a Spanish electricity bill works from scratch: that is already written and free to read.
  • The study of whether a battery or an EV charger suits you, which is separate work and a separate hour.
  • Switching electricity retailer.
  • Activating surplus compensation if it turns out not to be active: that is a separate service.
  • Any complaint filed against your retailer.

What falls outside is covered by: how a bill is read, concept by concept, the paperwork side of your installation, battery or surplus, decided with numbers.

How it works, step by step

Every step says who does it. Anything that depends on a third party is marked as such and carries no date committed by us.

  1. Step 1Your part

You upload the full bill, give us the CUPS and authorise us to look at your consumption curve.

We need: Full bill, CUPS and authorisation to consult the curve.
  2. Step 2We do this

We cross your bill with twelve months of your consumption curve and run the three checks.

    Our turnaround: 3 working days

Counted from: The moment the bill, the CUPS and the authorisation are in.

We do not promise: That there will be something to correct: it may turn out everything is fine.

  3. Step 3We do this

We hand you the report and, if you are paying for power you do not use, we handle the change.

    Our turnaround: 2 working days

Counted from: The close of the analysis.

We do not promise: A date on which the network operator applies the change of contracted power.

  4. Step 4Depends on your grid operator

The network operator applies the new contracted power.

The timing is set by the authority. We do not commit to it.

What we need from you

With this the file is complete, and that is the point from which our timescale runs.

  • Your latest electricity bill, complete and with every page

    Required

It carries the contracted power, the tariff, the grid tolls and whether there is a surplus compensation line.

  • The CUPS of the supply point

    Required

It identifies the supply point without ambiguity and it is what allows the consumption curve to be consulted.

  • Authorisation to consult your consumption curve

    Required

The right contracted power is worked out over twelve months of real consumption, not from a single month. The data is yours and we need you to let us see it.

  • The size of your solar installation and its self-consumption modality

If you have it to hand

It lets us check whether what is exported and what is compensated bear any relation to what the installation can produce.

What you get and what happens next

  • Review report with the three checks and their conclusion

It is not a complaint against your retailer, nor a document with effect before them.

  • Calculation of the power you need, with the curve that justifies it

It is not a guarantee of savings: it is the consumption you have had, not the one you will have.

  • Change of contracted power handled, where it applies

It is not the change already applied: the network operator has its own timescale and its own conditions.

With the report in hand, you decide. If the review shows there is contracted power to spare, we handle the change and pass you the reference; applying it is a matter for your network operator and has its own timescale. If compensation turns out not to be active, we tell you which procedure applies and what it costs before you commit to anything. If everything is in order, that is a result too and that is where it ends.

Your hourly curve says when somebody is at home, so it is collected only for this review, kept in your file and never passed to any retailer. The detail is in the privacy policy.

How long we take and how much depends on third parties

Our turnaround

5 working days

Counted from: The full bill, the CUPS and the authorisation to consult the curve are all in.

What this turnaround does not cover

  • That we will find something to correct: your bill may well be right.
  • A specific amount of annual saving.
  • A date on which the network operator applies the change of contracted power.
  • Recovering amounts already billed: this looks forward, it does not claim backwards.

What depends on third parties

  • Your grid operator

Application of the new contracted power and availability of the consumption curve.

No date commitment on our side.

  • Your electricity retailer

Clarification of the surplus compensation line when the bill does not show it.

No date commitment on our side.

We commit to filing a complete application and following it through. The decision date is set by the authority, not by us, so we do not promise it.

The price, and what happens to it if you book work afterwards

It is a fixed price for one hour of work with a written scope. We charge for this review because we take no commission from any retailer: it is the only way the conclusion is the one that suits you. And if larger work comes out of it, what you paid is not lost.

When the service counts as delivered

The report with the three checks and their conclusion is delivered. It can be completed within the fourteen calendar days of the right of withdrawal, so when booking you are asked to accept that expressly.

It does not count as delivered because of:

  • The conclusion being that your bill is fine and there is nothing to change.
  • The saving being smaller than you expected.
  • The network operator taking its time to apply the change of contracted power.

Review my bill

Special cases

There are two situations in which this stops being a bill review. If they come up, we stop, tell you which road it is and you decide.

  • If the review shows compensation is blocked rather than merely inactive, this stops being this service and we tell you which one it is.
  • If the installation is not correctly registered, the path is a regularisation and not a bill review.

What the work rests on

  • The home has a self-consumption installation. Without panels, this service is not for you.
  • The account holder can provide the bill and authorise consultation of their consumption curve.

Simplified surplus compensation discounts on your bill the energy you export to the grid, within the conditions set by the regulation. Having solar panels does not mean it is active.

Real Decreto 244/2019, de 5 de abril, por el que se regulan las condiciones administrativas, técnicas y económicas del autoconsumo de energía eléctrica, art. 4 y art. 14 (modalidades y compensación simplificada de excedentes) · checked on

Your hourly consumption curve is your data. The network operator releases it at your request, not ours, and that is why your express authorisation is needed.

Common mistakes when reviewing a bill with solar

Assuming that having solar means being paid for the surplus

Compensation has to be applied for, and plenty of perfectly good installations spend years exporting energy without being enrolled. It is the first thing we look at and the thing that most often turns up.

Cutting contracted power on the strength of one bill

One month is not a year. Cut the power looking at the May bill and the breaker trips in January. That is why the calculation runs over twelve months of real consumption and not over the last invoice.

Switching tariff on the advice of whoever is paid for the switch

Comparison sites are paid by the retailer they send you to. Their advice may well be good, but it can never be neutral, and that is worth knowing before signing.

Comparing the bill with last year's and stopping there

Between one year and the next, the price of energy changes, the home's consumption changes and even the number of days in the billing period changes. A comparison like that can hide a problem as easily as a real saving.

Expecting this to recover what has already been billed

This review looks forward: it says what to change and in what order. Claiming back amounts already billed is separate work, with a different difficulty and a different price.

Frequently asked questions

Comparison sites do this without charging. Why do you charge?

Because they earn a commission from the retailer they send you to, so their recommendation can never be neutral. We take no commission from any of them, which is why we charge you. It is the only way the answer is the one that suits you rather than the one that suits us.

What if it turns out everything is fine?

We tell you, and that is where it ends. Knowing there is nothing to correct is a result too, and it is what saves you from switching tariff just in case.

Do I lose the €99 if I hire you afterwards?

No. If within 60 days you book a service of 299 € or more with us, the €99 comes off that invoice in full.

Is it any use if I do not have solar panels?

No. This service is for homes with self-consumption, because half the work is checking surplus compensation. Without panels there is no surplus to check and the price would make no sense.

Why do you need my consumption curve?

Because the right contracted power is worked out over twelve months of real consumption, not from a single month. That data is yours and the network operator releases it to you; we only need your authorisation to look at it.

Send the bill and we will tell you what is going on

With the full bill, the CUPS and your authorisation to look at the curve, the report is ready within five working days. If you book larger work afterwards, the €99 comes off in full.
