State deduction
40% of up to 7,500 €
Against personal income tax (IRPF), for improving your home's energy efficiency. Works completed by 31 December 2026. Requires two energy certificates.
We will be straight with you: in 2026 there is no direct grant for putting panels on your home in Spain. What there is, and it is substantial, is two personal income tax (IRPF) deductions that stack, plus a third if you install a charger. Here are all three, with their real conditions and their deadline traps.
Reviewed on 16 August 2026. These measures expire: the deductions end on 31 December 2026 and can change by decree. Confirm them before deciding.
40% of up to 7,500 €
Against personal income tax (IRPF), for improving your home's energy efficiency. Works completed by 31 December 2026. Requires two energy certificates.
40% of up to 8,800 €
In the regional part of IRPF, for self-consumption in your main home. For a second home, 20%. Requires the IVACE+i certificate.
15% of up to 4,000 €
State deduction for installing a charging point at your home. Up to 600 euros, also with a deadline at the end of 2026.
Today, none
The Next Generation funds for home solar ran out. No one will pay money into your account for installing panels in 2026.
The state deduction for energy improvement works lets you deduct 40% of what you invest from your personal income tax (IRPF), on a maximum base of 7,500 euros, for works completed by 31 December 2026. For a solar panel installation, that 40% is the band that applies almost every time. And it is not automatic: it is earned with paperwork.
Why 40% and not 20%. The rule has three bands. The 20% band, with a base of 5,000 euros, rewards cutting heating and cooling demand: insulating, changing windows. Solar panels do not reduce that demand, so they do not qualify that way. The 40% band rewards cutting the home's non-renewable primary energy consumption, which is exactly what self-consumption does. And there is a third band of 60%, with a base of 15,000 euros, for refurbishment works that improve the whole building, designed for blocks of flats and communities of owners.
The condition almost no one mentions: two certificates. You need two energy performance certificates for your home: one before the works and one after. The deduction exists if the second one proves the improvement over the first. Without the prior certificate there is nothing to compare against, so getting it before installing is not red tape: it is the key to the deduction.
The hidden deadline. The post-works certificate must be registered before 1 January 2027. Having it drawn up is not enough: it has to be entered in the register. Finishing the works, certifying and registering takes weeks, so an installation signed in autumn 2026 is cutting it fine. The earlier you start, the more margin you have.
The legal basis, with its history. This deduction lives today in Real Decreto-ley 2/2026. Its predecessor, Real Decreto-ley 16/2025, was repealed in January 2026 and the extension was re-approved afterwards with changes. That is why you will find websites citing a rule that no longer exists. It is a good reminder that these measures come by decree and can lapse: hence the notice above.
The Comunitat Valenciana has its own self-consumption deduction in the regional part of IRPF: 40% of the investment in your main home, on a maximum base of 8,800 euros. For a second home, 20%. And best of all: it stacks with the state deduction on the same installation.
Watch the base figure. Many websites, and the odd outdated official page, still say 8,000 euros. The canonical reference is the IRPF manual of the Spanish tax agency (Agencia Tributaria), and it says 8,800. It is the kind of detail that separates a reviewed page from a copied one.
Its requirements are different. The energy certificates of the state deduction do not count here. The Valencian deduction requires the certificate from IVACE+i, the energy agency of the regional government (GVA), and the installation must be entered in the self-consumption register. The official procedure provides for the certificate to be decided within a maximum of 30 working days. We file the application and follow it up until you have it.
If it does not fit in one year, it is not lost. The part you cannot apply in this year's tax return can be carried forward to the following four. For larger investments, that changes the sums.
The two deductions apply to the same installation, each with its own maximum base and requirements. The state one reduces the state part of your IRPF; the Valencian one, the regional part. Properly processed, the tax relief is the biggest help that exists today for installing panels.
An example with round figures. Not a quote and not a promise.
Imagine a solar installation with a battery costing 13,000 euros, paid and invoiced in 2026, with every certificate in order.
State deduction: the base is capped at 7,500 euros. 40% of that is 3,000 euros.
Valencian deduction: the base is capped at 8,800 euros. 40% of that is 3,520 euros.
Total: up to 6,520 euros less IRPF. Half the installation in the example.
The honest part of the example: these are maximums. A deduction reduces what you owe on your tax return, so the result depends on your own return. The Valencian one lets you carry the excess forward four years; the state one has its own rules. And it all hangs on the certificates and registrations being done and on time. Your real figure is worked out from your case, not from an example.
Installing an electric car charging point at your home gives a 15% deduction on a base of up to 4,000 euros: up to 600 euros less IRPF, also with the 31 December 2026 cut-off. If you buy a plug-in car, there is also a 15% deduction on a base of up to 20,000 euros.
It helps to know where we have come from: the MOVES III scheme, which gave a direct grant for the charging point, ended on 31 December 2025. And the current incentives for buying a car do not cover home charging. The 15% deduction is what remains, and it is worth using. How we install and legalise the charging point, with its certificate and its paperwork, is explained in home EV chargers.
The European Next Generation funds that paid for part of the installation ran out. In August 2026 there is no open call for a direct grant for home solar in the Comunitat Valenciana. None. If a website talks about “grants of up to 40%” to capture your phone number, it is almost certainly recycling dead schemes.
The difference matters: a grant is money paid into your account; a deduction means paying less IRPF the following year. Blurring the two on purpose is a sales technique. The acid test is simple: ask for the specific call for applications, with its publication in the official gazette and its application window. If they cannot give it to you, you have your answer.
This can change, and we hope it does: we review the IVACE+i calls every quarter and this page is updated whenever there is news. The review date above is real.
Both deductions are won or lost in the paperwork: the energy certificate from before, the one from after registered on time, the IVACE+i certificate and the self-consumption registration. We do all of that, with qualified engineers, as part of the job. When tax return season comes, you will have every document in hand.
How we prepare the energy certificate, with its registration and its label, is in the energy certificate done by engineers. And the rest of the installation paperwork, from the council to the regional industry department, in permits and legalisation for your panels.
For households in the Comunitat Valenciana, no. The Next Generation funds ran out and no call for applications is open. What exists is tax relief: two personal income tax (IRPF) deductions that can be combined. We check the IVACE+i calls every quarter in case something new opens.
Almost always 40%. The 20% band rewards cutting heating and cooling demand, and solar panels do not touch that demand. The 40% band rewards cutting non-renewable primary energy consumption, which is exactly what they do. The improvement is proved by comparing the two energy certificates.
Yes, they stack on the same installation. Each has its own maximum base and its own requirements: the state one needs two energy certificates; the Valencian one, the IVACE+i certificate and registration in the self-consumption register.
The works, until 31 December 2026. And mind the second deadline: the post-works energy certificate must be registered before 1 January 2027. Installing, certifying and registering takes weeks, so leaving it to November or December is cutting it fine.
With the Valencian one, whatever does not fit can be carried forward to the following four tax years. The state one has its own application rules. A deduction reduces what you owe on your return: that is why it pays to check your own case with your tax adviser before counting the money.
The official procedure of the regional government (GVA) provides for a decision within a maximum of 30 working days. We prepare and file the application with the complete paperwork and follow it up until it arrives.
Yes. Installing a charging point at your home gives a 15% deduction on a base of up to 4,000 euros, up to 600 euros, with the same horizon: 31 December 2026. The current incentives for buying a car do not cover home charging.
Tell us about your home and your plans. We will tell you which deductions apply, which certificates are needed, and process them for you as part of a solar installation with a proper study behind it. No obligation.
