How much a solar panel installation costs

It depends on your house, and anyone giving you a figure without studying it is guessing. What does exist are public industry benchmarks: here they are, alongside what really moves the final price. No figures of our own: our price comes out of a study of your roof and your consumption.

The market benchmark, with its source

According to the annual report on photovoltaic self-consumption and storage by APPA Renovables, the average residential price in Spain in 2025 was around 1,215 €/kW installed. For the report's typical installation of 5.5 kW, that means an average investment of around 6,700 €.

The same report estimates average savings of 189 € per kW installed per year for homes in 2025, and a payback of between 6 and 7 years for that typical installation, before tax deductions.

Two caveats about these figures. They are national averages: your house may come out above or below, and part of the difference is legitimate, as you will see below. And they do not include a battery, which can change the total considerably: according to UNEF, 61% of the households that installed solar in 2025 fitted one from the start.

What does your figure depend on?

Six variables explain almost all the difference between two serious quotes: the roof, the access, the electronics, the battery, the electrical run and which paperwork is included. None of them can be known over the phone. That is why two houses on the same street can have different prices and both be properly quoted.

Your roof

Arabic tile, flat roof or metal sheet each call for different mounts and hours of work. The roof's condition counts too: sometimes it pays to repair before mounting.

Access

A roof at street level does not cost the same as one that needs scaffolding, a lifting platform or special means to get the material up.

The electronics

String, optimisers or microinverters. Each option has its cost, and the right one depends on your shading and orientations, not on the installer's catalogue.

The battery

It is the item that moves the total most. It can come close to the cost of the rest of the installation, so it is sized from your consumption curve or not fitted at all.

The electrical run

The distance between panels, inverter and your consumer unit, and the state of the house's wiring. An old consumer unit may need adapting.

The paperwork: included or not?

The council, the regional industry office and the certificate that activates compensation. Some quotes include them, others leave them out. Always ask before comparing.

What that paperwork is and who files it is explained in permits and legalisation for your installation.

Why distrust an installation price closed over the phone?

Because an installation cannot be calculated without data. Anyone closing a figure without seeing your roof, your shading and your consumption can only do one of two things: pad the price to cover themselves, or give you a tight one that later grows with ‘extras’ on installation day. Neither works in your favour. Paperwork is a different matter: its scope can be defined up front, which is why ours carries a published price.

The warning signs are easy to spot. A system size decided on the first call. A ‘top-brand panel’ with no brand named. A discount that expires today. And the clearest of all: a rush to sign before anyone has been up to look at the roof.

A serious quote arrives after a study, with the brand and model of every component, its warranties in writing and your roof's estimated production. If you want to see what we look at before giving a figure, it is explained step by step on our solar panels page.

How does payment work at Captia?

In stages, and never 100% up front. Each payment matches something that has already happened: the equipment ordered, the installation finished and working, the paperwork filed. The exact schedule is set out in your quote, before you sign anything.

It is our way of making sure the risk is not all on you. If someone asks for all the money before setting foot on your roof, ask yourself what binds them to come back if something fails.

The sums do not end with the quote: there are tax deductions

Two deductions are currently in force: a national income tax (IRPF) deduction for energy-improvement works and a Valencian regional one for self-consumption, and they can be combined if you meet the conditions of each. Together they can return a significant part of the investment, so they belong in any honest price comparison.

The percentages, limits, deadlines and paperwork they require change and carry small print, so we keep them up to date on a single page: grants and deductions in force in 2026.

Questions about the price

Why do you not publish a price?

Because we do not sell packs. Every quote comes out of a study using your roof's radiation and your hour-by-hour consumption, and two houses that look identical from outside can need different installations. Publishing a price before studying your case would be promising something we do not yet know.

Is a fixed pack not cheaper?

On paper it can look that way. The problem is that a pack carries a system size decided before anyone knows your house: if it is too big, you have paid for panels you do not use; if it is too small, the savings fall short. Cheap is paying for what your consumption needs, no more and no less.

Does the price include the legalisation?

In our case, yes: the paperwork with the council and the regional industry office is part of the job. When comparing quotes, confirm what each one includes, because an installation that is not legalised cannot receive surplus compensation and can cause problems later.

How long does it take to recover the investment?

According to APPA's annual report, a typical 5.5 kW residential installation commissioned in 2025 would recover its cost in the region of 6 to 7 years, before tax deductions. With the deductions in force, the real figure can come down. In the study we work out yours from your own consumption hours.

Your figure, from a study and in writing

Tell us where your house is and we will tell you what we need to study your roof and your consumption. You will then have a quote with every component itemised and the staged payment schedule. No obligation, and no salesman knocking on your door.
